Why doesn't life come with an undo button?

Have you ever sent an email and the exact moment you press send you realize you forgot the spell check… ugh!!!!!! It honestly has to be the worst feeling in the world. Why not have these amazing computer people figure out a way to give you a 30 second limbo land to get in there fix it. I want an email “undo”. So my uber uber important email was sent with terrible spelling mistakes. What can I say I type fast and then go back to spell check and learn how remedial I actually am. Spell check has absolutely killed my spelling abilities. You know the saying use it or lose it, I’m a prime example. So this important email went out into cyber land into the hands of important people with a ton of mistake. I had might as well wrote my resume in crayons and sent it in the mail. I decided to send another email promptly after, with the same subject line but with the word revised in bold. Then in the email itself I put how sorry I was that I had accidentally sent it with out spell check and how it’s not a reflection of myself nor my work.. Kind of a stalker-ish. I still have a glimmer of hope that they will find it possibly endearing or maybe they are so laid back that they will see it as “at least she made an effort to fix it”? Well I’m not sure if any one out there reads my blog but would love some input! Let me know!

Rainy Tuesday

Rainy Tuesday. Woke up this morning went on the elliptical for about 40mins. Got my Green Monster, got ready for work. Received a ride to the train station from my lovely boyfriend, off work today because of the rain, soo jealous. Enjoyed my book on the train, got up off train. "Wait what’s this…oh that's right. It's raining!" I left my umbrella on the train. Here’s what I don’t get. It’s not like I was sitting alone, there was a woman sitting next to me. Why didn’t I get the whole “Hey miss you forgot this”. This is what I’m thinking, I don’t remember seeing her with an umbrella maybe this was her plot from the moment I sat down. It’s a super rainy day and tomorrow is supposed to be a wash out, little train lady will be nice and dry and I’ll have to run out on my lunch to buy a new one. I’m probably crazy and she was definitely into her book, she didn’t notice, but my first theory makes me feel better about leaving it behind. Who knows?
So I got to work in one piece not too wet. Talking to the girls about lunch and snacks for the day so on and so forth. There is a small group of us that are fairly health conscience and love to talk about food. I just got them hooked to caloriecount.com and we were talking about plugging in our food and whatnot, by the way if you aren’t on it get on it! So back to the chit chatting… this one girl ,we will call her AR, starts saying how she only wants to eat 1200 calories a day and that she only has had 430 calories thus far (it was 1pm). Me and my health partner in crime PK, start on our rant about how unhealthy that is and how your body will go into starvation mode and your brain function will even be effected after a period of time. To my complete shock… she didn’t care at all! I’m not saying I have never ever crashed diet for something, event etc., but if you can get better results by committing to eating better and working harder wouldn’t you rather do that than be hungry and angry. You know it’s true too...show me a hungry girl and I’ll show you an angry one. When you starve yourself your body slows down it metabolism, which means eventually that 100 calorie cookie will be like a 1000 cookie to your metabolism. You develop mental fatigue, inability to concentrate, irritability, headaches, confusion. Then your body uses (eats your) muscle for nutrients. Then you do start to eat again, it’ll store EVERYTHING, because it thinks it may go into starvation mode again. Your body is a complex smart machine. Take care of it!

The way I was able to understand nutrition is just that, think of your body as a machine, an amazing high quality machine. One of my favorite sayings in the beginnings was “Eat for the body you want, not the body you have.” If you think about it food is our body’s fuel. If I was driving around the new Audi R8 I wouldn’t be filling it up with regular gasoline, I would be giving that baby premium and I also would be getting the oil checked when it need to be done. So of course I’m going to treat my body like this as well, give it premium “gas” food. My body doesn’t run on chemicals it runs on food! So I try and avoid all processed foods. Why would I fill up on that stuff when the real version is available and so much better for me. Eat your veggies and fruits. I try to have a basic rule of if something stays fresh for a month and looks and tastes exactly the way it did when I first purchases it then I’m not going to eat it. It sounds strange but you want to eat things that rot. Things that die mean they are alive and being alive is energy and nutrients, all the things that we need in our diet.

By no means am I certified to give eating or dieting advice, these are only my opinions. So far on my health journey these are the things that have worked for me. Since I’ve made these changes not only have I lost 20 pounds (without being hungry ever!) I feel amazing , which is the most important thing. Well I have a couple of more hours of work to plow through then p90x polymerics, my favorite!!

Weekend Recap

Mondays… need I say more. I vote for a four day work week, three day weekend. My weekend was good, but short. Did P90x on Friday, back and legs. We had the hardest time getting it together, I pretty much half-assed the work out. Made some amazing chili for dinner, I’ll have to put up a pic. It’s a such a pretty dish. (recipe below). After that watched TV and went to bed. WOW you wouldn’t think I was 26, huh? More like 76. The weekdays really knock it out of me. I by no means have a physical job. In fact I sit on a yoga ball because my entire day is sitting, 8 hours. The yoga ball was a major improvement . The first week of using it my stomach was soo sore, you keep your balance with your core, and my back would hurt a little at the end of the day. I’ve been using it for about 5 months now and couldn’t go back to a real chair if I tried. I have a tendency to bounce through phone calls and emails, makes the day go much much faster, and they . I did some research there are a ton of benefits to sitting a ball and not a normal chair. Check this out “Ten Reasons To Use an Exercise Ball As your Chair” (I’m a big fan of #8). If you decide to take the plunge and buy one get one that’s a good quality. I had the privilege of having on burst right under me, not fun! Right now I’m using 75 cm from GoFit.net

Well back to weekend, Saturday woke up fairly early and went for a run. Ran 4 miles which isn’t anything amazing but I did concur this hill that has been my worst enemy since I moved into my new neighborhood.. It’s so steep and it is on my way home so when I get to it I’m usually far too tired to try and make it up it, so I chicken out and walk it… but not on Saturday. I plowed right up it! Amazing feeling, there was another who was right in front and they made half way up and walked, I passed them running! I was so excited you would of thought I won a million dollars that morning. Goals that you can actually achieve are great and even better when you achieve them. So brag away if you have any little achievements the world should know about!

Chili Recipe:

2 15oz. cans of Red Kidney beans
2 15oz. cans of Black Beans
2 Red Peppers
2 Green Peppers
1 large Onion
2 Green squash
3 cans of tomato sauce
1 can stewed tomatoes
2 cans diced tomatoes
Crushed red pepper
Garlic powder
1lb. Ground Lean Turkey
Chili powder
1 can of sweet corn

Put all can goods into a large pot and let simmer on medium heat, add garlic powder, crushed red pepper, and chili powder to taste.(I'm very heavy handed at this)
Chop all your veggies into bite size portions, and place into a wok (or frying pan) with a little olive oil and roast until tender.
Brown and drain your turkey in a separate pan.
Add veggies and turkey to the large pot with all your can goods and let sit on medium heat for at least an hour. (the longer the better)
This makes about 10-12 servings, it freezes really well. Just place them in baggies and you'll have a quick meal for anytime.

Music and Work Outs

So me and my boyfriend have been doing P90X, we are actually on our last week. Crazy! I completely recommend P90X, I've never had muscle, I mean NEVER and now I have arms. I mean "ticket to the gun show" arms. Give it a try but get ready to be in pain and "bring it". When you buy it you'll understand what I mean by "bring it". It's a 90 day commitment but worth missing those happy hours.

So yesterday on my lunch I ran over to FYE and picked up 2 new CDs, Police (classic) and Phoenix. We listened to Phoenix last night as we lifted. Let me tell you to my surprise the music went great with the work out. I was just totally "in the zone" ( I can't believe I actually just said that, but it's true!). It was the right music at the right time, I love how music can do that. My question is do you have a favorite CD or band that just puts you in that "I'm gunna have an awesome work out" mood?

Was hoping to listen to the Police this morning during my run, but my bed was way too perfect to get out of. When I did eventually leave fetal position I made an awesome "green monster" with a scoop of protein and was on my way. If you are a green monster virgin try it ASAP, perfect way to start the day. I'm still new to the "green monster movement". Here is the recipe I've been using:

1/2 Banana
3 Strawberries
1/2 cup of Yogurt
2 cups of Spinach
3 ice cubes
1 scope of Whey Protein
Splash of Skim Milk

Then Enjoy! Let me know what new combos you come up with.

First Time "Blogger"

Well hello there, so I'm sure this blog reeks of first time blogger. I've spent a lot of time reading many other blogs about food and health and decided I have some things to say as well. A lot of these girls out here I must say are amazing! Love them. So first let me introduce my self, my name is Lyndsey. I was never the epitome of health, growing up I was the token "Fat Girl". Had a good amount of friends, due to the fact my personality and humor were top notch seeing that I had to make up for where I was lacking, or should I say not lacking. The ugly duckling syndrome... producing skinny adults with self esteem issues everyday!

I'm definitely not having a pity party here. First couple of years in college burned of all the weight and started what I refer to as my real life. I'm not going to say I did it in the healthiest way, and I'm in no way condoning eating disorders etc.
After that time period of drinking and eating ( wait did I actually eat? ). I started to pack the pounds back on. Decided to take back my life and charge on to better horizons, the RIGHT WAY! So that's a quick recap of the last 26 years of my life. Today I eat very healthy, drink on occasion and work out like a manic. The journey has started to build the healthiest most efficient body I can have. Hopefully with this blog I can inspire and be inspired.
